Auto Parts / 5. If the pre-cleaner consists of tubes, clean with a stiff brush,
compressed air, or water. Dry thoroughly before replacing.

            6. Inspect all gaskets and replace those that are cracked, have
breaks, or are stretched out of shape. Usually, gaskets are
located in the outer cover, inner cover, filter retention washer,
filter body, dust bowl or bolts. The most frequent cause of air
filter failure is in the gaskets.

            7. Reassemble, using a new or cleaned filter, in reverse order. Do not
attempt to clean or reuse the inner element that was removed. If
bolts are used on the lid, tighten uniformly using a criss-cross
pattern. Clamps and mounting bands should be checked and
uniformly tightened. Make sure the dust bowl or cup fits air tight.

            8. Inspect and tighten all air induction system connections. Replace
all cracked or broken rubber connectors. Watch for unusual
amounts of dirt “trails” or dirt gathering at a connector. This
               generally means an air leak.
