Auto Parts / INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS FOR

          AUTOMOTIVE SPIN-ON OIL FILTERS

An increasing number of motorists today are performing oil and filter changes
on their cars. However, present installation instructions vary from
manufacturer to manufacturer, and may be confusing to the installer.
These instructions may be used in changing any spin-on oil filter.

                                    1. Clean base.
Unscrew and remove old filter. Be sure
old gasket is removed with filter. Wipe
filter mounting base with clean cloth.

                                    2. Apply clean oil to gasket.
Apply thin film of clean motor oil to
new filter gasket. Do not use grease.

                                    3. Spin on to gasket contact.
Line up threads carefully to avoid
                                        cross-threading. Spin new filter on
                                        until gasket contacts base.

                                    4. Tighten additional turns.
Tighten filter the required number of
                                        turns beyond gasket contact.
                                        Important - Follow instructions of
                                        filter manufacturer (usually found on
                                        filter) for final tightening. This
example shows to tighten filter 1
turn past gasket contact. This may
                                        be different for other filters.

                                    5. No leaks.
Be sure oil shows full on dipstick.
Start engine and check for leaks.
                                        Correct source of any leaks
                                        observed. Shut off engine. Re-check
oil level. Add oil if necessary.

                                    6. Inspect for dents.
Important – Do not use filter if it is
                                        dented.
