Auto Parts / 6 REpLACING A COMpRESSOR
group
wHEN REPLAcING A cOMPRESSOR IT IS IMPORTANT TO
MAKE A FEw PRELIMINARY cHEcKS PRIOR TO STARTING
THE ENGINE.
1| CHECK THE AIR DISCHARGE LINE FOR BLOCKAGE AT
LEAST Up TO THE UNLOADER.
If the unloader exhaust is carbonned up, the air line will be also.
Replace the pipe and check also the line up to the 4 - circuit
protection valve.
2| CHECK THE COMpRESSOR AIR INLET FILTER IS IN
GOOD CONDITION, AND REpLACE WHERE NECESSARY.
3| BEFORE RE-CONNECTING THE OIL FEED LINE, pour in a little engine oil. This will
prevent the crankshaft from turning ‘dry’ on starting. The same can be done in the air inlet to
lubricate the compressor bore.
4|WATER-COOLED COMpRESSORS WATER CIRCUITS should be properly purged as air
pockets quickly lead to overheating. Minimum flow of cooling liquid should be 5 litres per mi-
nute.
5| FOR VEHICLES WORKING IN RIGOROUS CONDITIONS
such as mines , quarries, motorway construction, extra care
should be taken to ensure correct filtration, as abrasive dust par-
ticles cause premature piston ring wear.
6| WHEN REpLACING A COMpRESSOR DRIVEN BY A GEAR,
it is advisable to check the gear for wear. Also, ensure the correct
fixing to the crankshaft end.
7| WHEN RETURNING THE OLD COMpRESSOR, ensure that
the crankshaft end thread is adequately protected.
